Ok, now this is scary. Amazon, who released their “own” search engine, A9.com, has added a new feature called Yellow Pages. But, here’s the creepy part … they have pictures of the store fronts. What’s so scary about that? Well, it’s not just the store front, it’s actually the whole street. So, you can look up a restaurant or store and see the picture of the front as well as the neighboring stores. So, everything’s on the web! When you look up a store and you see the picture, you can actually “walk” to the left or the right and continue down. So, if you live next to a store, you could actually see your house!
Here’s some examples:
The infamous Pho 87
Momotaro Sushi - surprised i didn’t see my car parked in the parking lot
Hodori and Nakwon in K-Town
Kil Mok (The Corner Place)
Try to “walk” to the right or left. Crazy, eh?
Try some stores/restaurants that you know. Just goto A9.com and type the name of the business and the zip or the city, state.
So, how do they do this? They have this Amazon van with GPS and a digital camera just going around town taking pictures constantly! And it’s all automated (except the driving, of course). Here’s the technical description on how they do it as well as a video on how they do it.
Here’s an article about it.
Is this crazy or what? Thoughts?
that’s pretty pimp… altho almost stalkerish… but it was bound to happen at some point… just another step for big brother.
Did you know that if you use a9.com as your search engine, you can get a pi/2% discount on all amazon.com purchases?
no, didn’t know that!
