Whew! Just finished a pastors conference in Snowbird (Salt Lake City), Utah. It was incredible! It was one of the most stacked retreats, in terms of speakers, that I have ever been too. These pastors are at the top of their “game” and they just have incredible insights and are so passionate about God and His Word.
Walter Brueggemann, James Forbes, Tony Campolo, Barbara Brown Taylor … amazing! The theme of the conference was all on Sabbath. That’s why it was packed with incredible speakers in the morning and evening, so that we could just absorb good teaching (like drinking from a fire hydrant). And then the afternoons were completely free to do whatever (rest)! The retreat planning team did it right, that’s for sure. And they picked a great place with a breath-taking view. So, what did I do on my afternoons off? Got in touch with God through nature … golfed five rounds, baby! That’s more golf than I have played in the last two years! Had a great time with some pastor friends.
To make it a complete trip, at the airport on the way back home, I run into Tony Campolo. Had a chance to chat with him and take a pic (although the person taking the pic didn’t know how, so it didn’t work!!!). Campolo speaks at 350 events a year! That’s almost one a day. Man, and he’s 70 years old and still has more passion and energy in preaching the Word than almost anyone I know. Wow.
Thank you, Lord, for the much needed Sabbath and using humble servants to remind me of what it really means.
Five rounds of golf… awesome!
