Korean Restaurants in LA

1 June 2010 57 views 5 Comments
Because I’m from LA, I get the question all the time, “I’m going to LA this week, what Korean restaurants do you recommend?” I’ve had some in an email that I usually respond to, but it’s migrated it’s way to my Evernote and now, I’m making it public on my blog so that I can just refer people to this link. These are the restaurants that I would recommend for people to visit when they are there. There might be other newer, better options, but these are the classics (for me).

The Corner Place (Gilmok) – known for their dong-chee-mee noodle and dwehgi bulgogi/kalbi
2819 James M Wood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 487-0968

Gui Mok – known for their dome shaped grill that they cook sam gup sil with a mote of kimchee jigae around it
414 South Western Avenue, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 388-9299

Dong Il Jang – known for their ros gui and their eun da gu jo rim. they do fried rice with ros gui afterwards!
3455 West 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 383-5757

Shik Do Rak – known for their duk bo sap and cha dol bag gi
2501 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 384-4148

Chosun Galbi – the marinated galbi is one of the best, although very pricey.
3330 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA – (323) 734-3330

Keun Gama – best sul lang tang and galbi tang
3498 West 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 365-6788

BCD Soon Tofu – known for their 24 hour soon tofu
3580 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 382-6660

Yu Chun – best chic naeng myun
3185 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 382-3815

Mr. Coffee – have to have their green tea paht bing-soo with fruity pebbles
537 South Western Avenue, Los Angeles, CA – (213) 389-6767

If you have any other suggestions, or agree/vouch for one of the ones above, comment below.

Now, when’s my next conference in LA again? =)

Sir, you haven't been updated. Mr.Coffee and Yu Chun is not there any more. Hmm. I'm not exactly sure about Yu Chun. But for sure about Mr. Coffee. And…What about SutBul Gooi Rim where you introduced to me?

I believe that with the explosion of All-You-Can-Eat(AYCE) BBQ places in L.A., Gil Mok is now only worth going to for their Kook-Soo (noodle). I have NEVER liked their meat, but it was cheap. But given that down the street at Ma Dang Sae, you can have AYCE BBQ for $7.99 (yes, that is right, $7.99), I usually steer clear of Gil Mok. Speaking of AYCE, right now a trendy place is Moo Dae Po II. It’s loud and very hectic, but the food quality and service is very good. They also finish the meal with warm kalkuksoo. Not bad. All for under $20.
