Before, I was all about the most applications and having it there at my disposal … even stuff that I would use once or twice a year! But, now, I’ve been influenced by LifeHacker, 43Folders, and GTD, and it’s all about trying to minimize distractions. Do I really need have my contact list of IM buddies and know exactly when they log on and off, taking up precious screen real estate? Do I have to keep all my applications in the dock, just in case? Do I need a beautiful desktop wallpaper?

So, I have become a minimalist and maybe even gone overboard.

Thanks to programs like QuickSilver, Desktopple and a post from 43Folders, I’m FOCUSED! I can still access my contact list by sliding over my mouse on the left side, and it just pops up … or with a press of a keyboard-shortcut, I can see the desktop with all the icons. It was tough getting used to it, but I think it really keeps me focused.

I’ve used these optimized builds before, but this one, for the Intel Mac (especially for MacBook and MacBook Pros), makes a MAJOR difference. I’m so excited about this that this has made me come out of my blog shell of 2 months! (At least my public blog. I have a private journal blog of my year experience that I’m keeping. If anyone wants access to that, contact me).

Download Intel Mac-optimized Firefox 2.0 w/Aqua

Oh, added bonus is that the Aqua form widget is included in this install. That means that you’ll get the nice Mac look like Safari. It means it will look like this:

Oh, and one more good news. If you have a MacBook, and it has been randomly shutting down (my first one and 3 other friend’s first one’s had this major problem), then make sure that you do a software update on it today. They have released a fix for it … finally!

Finally, it’s here! I’ve been waiting for this too long, following EVERY (I mean EVERY) rumor of it’s release.

This is the iBook Intel replacement and it’s cheap. It’s 13.3″, which is basically a 12″ in widescreen. I think that’s the perfect resolution for a laptop. The 15″ is just a little too big and the 12″ was a little too small. This is the perfect balance between screen real estate and portability.

It’s got almost everything that the MacBook Pro has (iSight, MagSafe Power, Front Row, etc.). I’m glad I waited. And now, just like the iPods, it comes in white AND black! (I wonder if with the black one, you’ll need a protective cover for your laptop now.)

These are going to sell like hotcakes. Time to watch those Apple stocks! So, who wants one of these???

Oh yeah, anyone want to buy a nice used PowerBook G4 12″?

Finally, it’s been done. There has been a contest that people donated to (total of $13,000), for someone to find a way to install Windows XP on the new Intel Macs (iMac or MacBook Pro or Mac Mini) and the contest is over. If you have a new Intel Mac and are patient enough to try, here are the instructions.

This is the ideal system: The hardware of Apple and being able to dual boot to Mac OS X and Windows XP.

I SO want to do this … now I really need a MacBook Pro.

Many of these rumors start because Apple files for different patents. Then people start mocking up designs based on the patents that they have made. I really think the rumors are pretty accurate and a new iPod could be out BY early April (Apple’s 30th anniversary). So, if you are in the market for a new iPod and especially if you’ve been eyeing that video iPod out now, just wait a couple of months, at most. Unless you buy it at Costco!

Check out the mock up. Put your mouse over the screen and see how the virtual scroll wheel will appear. Everything will be touch sensitive. Awesome!

Finally, the beta for Google Earth for the Mac! This so cool. Everything always looks better on the Mac and Google Earth is no exception. It’s not fully released or official on their website, so you can get it here:

Man, this program is so awesome. I could play with it for hours. Just visiting places where you grew up and zooming in or “visiting” places where you’ve never been (and will probably never ever get to go to), is just fun!

If you have a PC and haven’t downloaded and played with it, you GOT to. But warning, it will consume hours of your time!!!
