[This is my first contribution to Creative Chaos]

We’re in the middle of a sermon series called “Influence” and it’s a series about being the salt and light. Each week, in the bulletin, everyone receives a different bookmark (2-3 different bookmarks for each week that people get randomly) with a bio of a person who have influenced the world for Christ. At the top of the bookmark is a black/white pic of the person of influence and below is a brief bio and how they made a difference. …

In August 2007, Jamie Gillentine dove head first into the ocean. But he didn’t know it was a sand bar. Jamie shattered his 6th cervical vertebrae. Spinal fragments were lodged in his spinal cord.
Jamie lost all feeling and movement from his upper-chest down to his legs. He had some arm movement but no hand dexterity. Here’s a video of his recovery which took several months.

Such an inspiration. It inspires me to press on and get up and run this race even when there are set backs. It inspires …

Words like forgiveness and redeemed are being used for something that happened yesterday at the Boston Red Sox season opening game. Bill Buckner, who was the first basemen for them in 1986, was blamed for losing the World Series for them by letting a simple ground ball roll between his legs and allowing the Mets to win the game and eventually the series. When you think baseball and choking, it would be the one that everyone would think of. Time magazine also named it the fourth greatest …

Read this story this morning about J.I. Packer (incredible author):
After I had my my book signed, many more pressed him. He signed books as he answered questions. The insight he provided into the Puritans in those few minutes still have a lasting impact on me. During the conversation, a young man (my age) approached Packer with a newly purchased ESV Bible (of which Packer was a general editor). Excitedly, he asked Packer to sign it and handed it to him. For a few moments Packer held the Bible in his …

Read this from the ESV Blog today. Always knew it to be true, but here are the stats to prove it:
If you resolved to read through the Bible in 2008, how’s it going for you? As you can see from the below chart, a good number of people start reading their Bibles daily in January. The traffic tapers off until around March 1, after which it remains pretty steady for the rest of the year. We interpret this data to mean that if you can keep reading your Bible daily …

Interesting article in Christianity Today talking about the 5 kinds of Christians in America:

* Invest in personal faith development through the church
* Feel obligated to share faith; 79% do so.
Professing Christians 20%

At the Catalyst Conference last week, we heard Wintley Phipps sing “Amazing Grace” but before he did, he told a great story. His voice is truly amazing.

The funniest was when Andy Stanley came up after him to do his talk and he said that he has a song to share too. He went to the keyboard and played “Chopsticks” (both parts) and said it was all on the white notes. You’ll get that after you watch the video.

I know I’m 12 days late on blogging this, but it definitely has been on my mind and in my prayers. It’s been over two months since I’ve blogged, but this is reason enough for me to break the silence. It’s been very difficult to find news on what is going on, but thanks to Eugene Cho, I’ve been keeping posted. And I wanted you to do the same. Please visit his post on his blog on the latest updates on the hostage situation. May …

At a retreat that I spoke at recently, I mentioned that there are three things true with all home renovation:

It’s always messy
It always takes longer than you think it will
After it’s all done, you’re glad you did it

Well, we have been in home renovation for the past 2 months. Since then, we have installed an over-the-range microwave, installed a new kitchen faucet, caulked the kitchen and every bathroom, stripped the wallpaper in our kitchen, freshly painted every inch of every wall that we own and, of course, declutter! …

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going, I do not see the road ahead of me, I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following Your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I …
