Man, read something that I really resonate with. I have been so convicted the past couple of years to really re-examine the way that we do church. Is the church really just a place for insiders and for the growth and maturity of Christians? Or are we also to be an inviting community that allows “outsiders” to feel that they are not only welcome, but that this is their place too? In the words of Andy Stanley, as a church, are we more concerned about keeping …

Just saw this recently and man, what a talk. Tony Dungy talks at AIA (Athletes in Action) about the three things that he’s learned about God through his three sons. This talk was given right after he lost his son last year.
I was really encouraged by this talk and hope you will be to. Make sure you watch both of them.

What the heck??? This is not right.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NFL has nixed a church’s plans to use a wall projector to show the Colts-Bears Super Bowl game, saying it would violate copyright laws.
NFL officials spotted a promotion of Fall Creek Baptist Church’s “Super Bowl Bash” on the church Web site last week and overnighted a letter to the pastor demanding the party be canceled, the church said.
Initially, the league objected to the church’s plan to charge a fee to attend and that the church used the license-protected words …

These were two posters that I had on my college dorm room wall MANY MANY years ago and I LOVED them. I don’t know where they went but I finally found a place that has them on the internet, so I ordered two sets of both of them, one for home and the other for the office. It was always good to just look up and be reminded of who God is and who I am. I really hope and pray that as my …

From Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis:
A Christian doesn’t avoid the questions; a Christian embraces them. In fact, to truly pursue the living God, we have to see the need for questions.
Questions are not scary.
What is scary is when people don’t have any.
What is tragic is faith that has no room for them.
A question by its very nature acknowledges that the person asking the question does not have all of the answers. And because the person does not have all of the answers, they are looking outside of themselves for guidance.
Questions, …

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for over a year. Now I can bear the fruits of doing it for over a year. I posted a blog last year on Ash Wednesday, and so now, I just cut and paste. You may call it cheating, I call it efficiency:
Today is Ash Wednesday. What is Ash Wednesday? It’s the first day of Lent. That means there are 40 days before Easter Sunday (not counting Sundays).
Traditionally, churches have a service on Ash Wednesday and …

These are the places I was so sure I’d find him
I looked in the pages and I looked down on my knees
I lifted my eyes in expectation
To see the sun still refusing to shine, But
Sometimes He comes in the clouds
Sometimes His face can not be found
Sometimes the sky is dark and gray
But some things can only be known
And sometimes are faith can only grow
When we can’t see
So sometimes he comes in the clouds
Sometimes I see me, a sailor out on the ocean
So brave and so sure, as long as the …

I was praying with my kids last night and they all went around to pray, as they do each night. But, I noticed that their prayers are getting more specific.
Before it was just, “Help mom to feel better,” or “Help us to obey,” but last night it was:
Emily: “God, please help mommy to feel better and help her to not feel sick and help her to get all the phlegm out.”
Kaily: “God, please be with us and help us to listen to mommy and daddy and not …

This is a quote from George Barna’s new book called Revolution. It’s a creed/promise that revolutionaries are commiting to. Will you be a revolutionary? Read it and if you believe it, sign your name as a comment and let’s bring a revolution in 2006!
I am a revolutionary in the service of God Almighty. My life is not my own. I exist as a free person but I voluntarily become a slave to God. My role on earth is to live as a revolutionary committed to …

During this season, we tell each other that it is a time for giving. It’s a time to be generous and a time to give of yourself to all those around you. And although that is true, we do have to be reminded that Christmas is not as much about giving as it is about receiving. We have almost bought into everything when we forget that.

The real meaning of Christmas is about truly receiving the grace and mercy of God, of recognizing that no matter what we …
