Came back from LifeGroup last night … what an amazing time. Just really was encouraged and “felt” like we were doing life together. Our study was on attentiveness. Attentiveness to one another, to God and God’s to us.
In the book, John Ortberg gives a great insight about God’s blessing:
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
He says:
To turn your face …

Whew! Just finished a pastors conference in Snowbird (Salt Lake City), Utah. It was incredible! It was one of the most stacked retreats, in terms of speakers, that I have ever been too. These pastors are at the top of their “game” and they just have incredible insights and are so passionate about God and His Word.
Walter Brueggemann, James Forbes, Tony Campolo, Barbara Brown Taylor … amazing! The theme of the conference was all on Sabbath. That’s why it was packed with incredible …

Just preached at YNEM this weekend about the majesty of God. When studying and preparing for this message, I was in a healthy tension of “Is God all about himself?” or “Is God for us?” If He was about us, then it wouldn’t be about His glory and His majesty. If He wasn’t about us, it would seem that God would just use us for His worship.
Well, I can across an incredible article written by John Piper that I wanted to share. Hope you enjoy it.

As a Christian I must remember not only that I was saved by grace, but that I am loved this day by grace. God did not save me by grace only to decide that now he will base how he feels about me on my spiritual performance yesterday. God’s love is always a gracious love.
God himself says you are chosen. You are wanted. God desires you for his family. Today. This is the wonder of grace. – John Ortberg
What a reminder! Why do I keep …

Bedtime conversation tonight:
[After we just finished our bedtime prayers]
Me: Emily, listen to me.
Emily: No, you listen to me.
Kailey: Emily, daddy is the boss so you have to listen.
Emily: No … God is the boss!
Kailey: Well, daddy is the boss in our family.
Emily: No, God is the boss of our family. Right daddy?
Me: [Pause] Yeah, right, God is the boss.
Man, in a long day of feeling out of control with the kids, I’m glad that He is the boss of our family and not me.

Perhaps my favorite Kierkegaardian story is his parable of the ducks. He describes a town where only ducks live. Every Sunday the ducks waddle out of thier houses and waddle down Main Street to their church. They waddle into the sanctuary and squat down in thier proper pews. The duck choir waddles in and takes its place, then the duck minister comes forward and opens his duck Bible (Ducks, like all other creatures on earth, seem to have their own special version of the Scriptures.) He reads to them: “Ducks! …

Visited Redeemer Presbyterian Church yesterday. Dr. Tim Keller, the senior pastor there, is a great communicator. I never saw him preach before, even though I’ve heard many of his messages. It was definitely much more captivating hearing and seeing him deliver God’s word. His message was on Hebrews 12:1-11. It was a great message and a wonderful reminder to me that trials, suffering, pain, stress, etc. are necessary for my growth. He’s currently doing a Hebrews series and so I picked up all the CDs, …

The bodily resurrection of Jesus isn’t a take-it-or-leave-it thing, as though some Christians are welcome to believe it and others are welcome not to believe it. Take it away, and the whole picture is totally different. Take it away, and Karl Marx was probably right to accuse Christianity of ignoring the problems of the material world. Take it away, and Sigmund Freud was probably right to say that Christianity is a wish-fulfillment religion. Take it away, and Friedrich Nietzsche was probably right to say that Christianity is a religion for …

Conversation w/Kailey in the car on our way to church this morning:
Kailey: I can’t wait for the Easter bunny to come.
Me: What! What Easter bunny? There is no Easter bunny.
Kailey: [silence]
Me: Kailey, the Easter bunny is pretend. There is no such thing as an Easter bunny. Do you know what Easter is?
Kailey: No.
Me: Do you know why we went to church yesterday? It’s because Jesus died on the cross.
Kailey: For our sins?
Me: Right, Kailey. He died on the cross for us for our sins.
Kailey: Who put …

“Remember what we give up is not the point, it’s what we put in its place that is important.”
Jesus in the Gospel of Luke reminds us that when a demon is cast out, if the void is not filled, then it is possible for something worse to befall the poor person who had been exorcised. An empty house, Jesus says, is an open invitation for a thief.
