I Love Chick-fil-A

My favorite fast food place has always been Chick-fil-A. But being in California for 7-8 years, I missed it so much. In fact, there was only one place (in Torrance) that was pretty far from church and home and so whenever someone was driving from there to church, we would always tell them to pick up some chicken sandwiches. Well now, living in Texas, there are as many Chick-fil-A’s as there are McDonald’s. And although I miss In-n-Out and the double-double from Cali, I’ll take Chick-fil-A …

A Role Model?

Yesterday, there was a school open house night where we go and visit the teachers and classrooms. We went to all of our kid’s classrooms. On each of their desks, they all had projects and drawings that we flipped through. I took a picture of one that caught my eye on Emily’s desk.

Someone who encourages me: Mom
My role model: Dad

Very cool. Except, when I asked Emily, “What a role model?” she said, “I don’t know.” Great.
Anyway, also on each of their desks …

A Challenge: 40 Days of Water

I decided early this week that I will take this challenge. And I want to extend the challenge to you:

We have the gift of choice: Freedom to choose on any given day what clothes we will wear, what work we will do, what food we will eat and what we will drink. In nearly a third of the world injustice threatens to take away these basic kinds of choices that we take for granted. In these places a woman can choose to drink the unclean river …

Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday. What is Ash Wednesday? It’s the first day of Lent. That means there are 40 days before Easter Sunday (not counting Sundays).
Traditionally, churches have a service on Ash Wednesday and the participants are “imposed” with ashes marked on their forehead (in the form of a cross). Usually a Scripture is used from Ecclesiastes 3:20: “You’ve come from dust, and to dust you will return.” It’s a day that we remember that we are mortal. That we are nothing …

How to Grill Brazilian BBQ (Churrasco)

Since we’ve move to Texas, we’ve had many guests over our home (averaging probably around a guest a week). One popular dinner menu item is when we cook Brazilian BBQ (Churrasco). Many people have never had it before. So, I’ve gotten a couple of requests on how we make it and just decided to do a video while I was cooking for our Superbowl LifeGroup get-to-gether yesterday. It’s SO easy, it almost doesn’t need a video, but you’ll see that in the video. In fact, it’s …

Still Reading Your Bible Daily?

So, this is the last week of January and I wanted to check in on everyone to see if they are still reading their Bible daily. I did a blog post last year about some statistics on Bible Reading and wanted to share that with you again. This is a chart of the web traffic on ESV Daily Bible reading website from 2007. As you can see, everything starts to decline after January. That’s why I wanted to encourage you to keep strong, knowing that most …

Glory to God

Steve Fee just posted a video of a new song on his website and we instantly fell in love with it that we had to share it with you all. I was familiar with the chorus of this song but never knew the verses or the bridge (first time in public). We learned it very quickly and recorded ourselves. His version sounds much better, but we enjoyed singing, worshipping and bringing “Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God, forever!”
If you want to sing it at …

2008 Christmas Sunday

This year has been an amazing year for our church. As our ministry has been growing in many different ways, we have worked to make our worship environment a more relevant place for people to worship God. Here’s a pic from a year ago that even actually taken AFTER we removed a large communion table, 4 big chairs and a huge pulpit from the stage:

And here’s a pic of yesterday’s Christmas Sunday service:

In this past year, some of the things we have done:

move the screen to the center …
