Me: Emily, listen to me.
Emily: No, you listen to me.
Kailey: Emily, daddy is the boss so you have to listen.
Emily: No … God is the boss!
Kailey: Well, daddy is the boss in our family.
Emily: No, God is the boss of our family. Right daddy?
Me: [Pause] Yeah, right, God is the boss.

Perhaps my favorite Kierkegaardian story is his parable of the ducks. He describes a town where only ducks live. Every Sunday the ducks waddle out of thier houses and waddle down Main Street to their church. They waddle into the sanctuary and squat down in thier proper pews. The duck choir waddles in and takes its place, then the duck minister comes forward and opens his duck Bible (Ducks, like all other creatures on earth, seem to have their own special version of the Scriptures.) Visited Redeemer Presbyterian Church yesterday. Dr. Tim Keller, the senior pastor there, is a great communicator. I never saw him preach before, even though I’ve heard many of his messages. It was definitely much more captivating hearing and seeing him deliver God’s word. His message was on Hebrews 12:1-11. It was a great message and a wonderful reminder to me that trials, suffering, pain, stress, etc. are necessary for my growth. He’s currently doing a Hebrews series and so I picked up all the CDs, …
